A reimagining of Leoš Janáček’s opera, set in an anthropocentric landscape.
The stage is divided into two realms: 1 - An abstract white space, a laboratory where the Försterin collects, classifies, and stores fragments of the non-human. 2 - A forest of dead trees on rolling steel frames, with textile bands acting as temporary roots - neither fully organic nor fully mechanical - the home of the Füchsin.
In this world, Försterin and Füchsin meet and confront one another. Excerpts from Janáček’s original score blend with new compositions by Andrea Scalmana, creating a small scale study of perspective and power. Between human and animal, authority and resistance, patriarchal order and feminist utopia.
